Ten Tors Training

It’s Ten Tors season again and I am back on Dartmoor with groups of students training for the big event in May.  This weekend we were lucky with the weather because high pressure brought cold, dry conditions rather than the wind and rain that so often happens on the moor.  Will be back next month for wild country camping.

Welsh Winter

A great day of Winter climbing yesterday in North Wales.  Lots of snow, great company and winter sunshine, a great day.  Thanks to Rob and Cornish Boy for the photos.

Ten Tors training

On 23/10/14 I took 11 students from Court Fields school out for a day of map reading on a very damp Dartmoor!  All the students did well and navigated to some small features in low visibility.  A good start to the training schedule!

SPA training course

This weekend I have been working on an SPA training course with Gwilym Starks.  We had some very mixed weather on day one with everything from sunshine to hail stones!  Day 2 was at the Cheesewring quarry in Cornwall and the weather was cold but dry giving us plenty of opportunity to put those rope work techniques into practice.

Coasteering

Today was the first of two days at Baggy Point coasteering with students from Courtcoastwwn Fields school.  Once again I was joined by local coasteering expert Russ Johns who always makes the sessions adventurous.  For many pupils this is the highlight of the school year, particularly when the weather was hot and sunny.

Hound Tor

Today I took the students from Court Fields school to Hound Tor.  Everybody climbed well and took the opportunity to do an abseil and hopefully some of these students will take up climbing and perhaps enter the south west schools climbing competition in the Autumn term.

Swanage

After a damp drive to Dorset Swanage came up trumps with some sunny conditions on Friday.  We were the only party at subliminal so there was no queuing for the routes.  The coffee and cake at the refurbished Durlstone castle went down a treat afterwards!
